This weekend, we welcomed Presley into our home as a temporary foster from BARCS. The shelter asked all of their volunteers if they would be willing or able to take one (or two… or five in one instance!) dogs or cats into their home this weekend while they dealt with the effects of Hurricane Irene. We ran down Saturday morning and grabbed Presley to bring home with us. I first met Presley last Saturday and I fell in love. She’s a 9 month old Pit mix pup with an old broken arm that leaves her right front arm looking crooked. She walks with a slight limp but it doesn’t seem to bother her at all. She came home and ran circles around Camden in the backyard! She was the perfect house guest and I could tell she absolutely loved being part of a real family, if only for one night.
On Sunday, I honestly didn’t want to take her back to the shelter. As I said my goodbyes to her in her kennel, I cried. You could tell she didn’t want me to leave either. It was truly heartbreaking. Unfortunately we aren’t able to take her as a full-time foster due to our move. It sucks, but I did put my name on her file in case she is chosen for euthanasia so I can rest easy knowing that if she doesn’t happen to find a great foster or forever home, she’ll at least be able to count on us in a pinch. And to be honest, I’d love to have her back. She was great during her stay – we didn’t even have to break out the crate! All she wanted to do was run around in the backyard with Camden for a few minutes… just to get the energy out of her system… then the rest of the time she was perfectly content lying on the couch with Brian, sleeping on the fluffy dog bed we brought out for her, chewing on her Nylabone, or snuggling on my lap. She was just so perfect and so easy. If we could possibly have 3 dogs in our family right now, she’d be #3 in a heart beat. She fit perfectly into our family and I am just praying that she finds a wonderful forever home. She absolutely deserves the best in life. She is AMAZING. And if she doesn’t find a forever home… at least I know she’ll find her way back to us
Of course, I couldn’t resist a photo shoot in our backyard before the rain came on Saturday and a few more on Sunday after the storm, so let me introduce to you… the adorable Ms. Presley!
Thanks for coming over for such a fun sleepover, Presley. We LOVED having you and we all miss you so much already… even Daddy! Presley and I will be attending the BARCS Pit Stop for Pit Bulls event this evening, so if you or someone you know is interested in meeting Presley, come on down to the Happy Hour tonight! She’ll be ready and waiting to give lots of hugs and kisses. Details below:
